AMY (CHANDLER) TAYLOR
(B.A. Comp. Ther. MRSS Shiatsu Society, VTCT)
SPECIALITIES: SHIATSU and MASSAGE
*IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 26th APRIL 2019 - after 13 years of dedicating my time and efforts to my business and my clients, which I have thoroughly enjoyed and will greatly miss, I am finally taking a break for maternity leave and plan to take 12 months off to be a new Mum. For massage treatments please see Hannah's page. For Shiatsu please refer to the Shiatsu Society. I look forward to resuming treatments sometime in 2020.*
Amy graduated from the University of Derby in 2006 with a degree in Complementary Therapies, specialising in Shiatsu and is a member of the Shiatsu Society (www.shiatsu.org). Her training included counselling, Mindfulness, nutrition, massage, Five Elements, TCM theory, Zen and the practice of Qi Gong. She offers a wide range of therapeutic bodywork treatments that can be tailored to suit your needs. The massage oils that Amy uses are vegan friendly, paraben free and not tested on animals. Although the aim of most treatments is to provide some pain relief or symptom relief Amy enjoys encouraging a wider shift in perspective to allow more happiness and peace in peoples lives.
Shiatsu is a fantastic whole body treatment performed fully clothed. It is a physical therapy that involves stretching, opening the joints, stimulating the meridians, working on the muscles and the acu-points. It is a unique treatment that can leave the receiver feeling relaxed, peaceful, freer in body and mind and taller than before. This transformational bodywork can be subtle but effective or strong and challenging.
Barefoot Shiatsu is for those who like a stronger therapy because it is performed using the feet more than the hands. This means a larger surface area is in contact and greater pressure can be applied using the practitioner’s natural weight and gravity combined.
Hot Stone Massage is a luxurious experience. Hot, smooth, volcanic stones are used to massage the body. The heat penetrates deep into the muscles, allowing profound relaxation, greater blood circulation and increased removal of toxins. It is great for stress relief, muscle tension, muscular back pain, "crunchy" shoulders and general well-being. Cold stones can be used in cases of inflammation.
Indian Head Massage is actually a massage of the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face. It’s fantastic for people who struggle to ‘switch off’, have difficulty sleeping, or who suffer from stress or shoulder and neck tension.
Stress Busting Massage This treatment combines the best techniques from body massage, advanced massage, hot stone massage and Indian Head Massage. It generally includes the back, shoulders, neck and head or can be tailored to suit your needs.
Thai Foot Massage is a massage of the feet and lower legs performed using the hands and a tool known as a ‘Thai Stick’. It can be firm and invigorating in places and gentle and relaxing in others. Feet are a much neglected part of our anatomy and this massage will help to improve flexibility of the ankles and feet, improve circulation and toxin removal, decrease tension in the legs and can reduce pain caused by structural imbalances. It also has a very calming effect on the receiver.
Hopi Ear Candling is a deeply relaxing treatment that focuses on the ears and sinuses and includes a face massage. “A light suction action and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the ear candle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum. This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for headache, earache and sinus problems.” - Biosun
Natural Face Lift Massage is designed to smooth, stretch and tone, leaving the skin feeling invigorated, rejuvenated, lifted and supple. A whole hour is spent working on the facial muscles helping you to look and feel younger. Individual treatments are effective but a course of treatments has a cumulative effect. Suitable for anyone but essential for special occasions – weddings, parties, modelling, etc.
Pregnancy Massage is suitable for all stages of pregnancy and can help to relieve some of the more uncomfortable symptoms of pregnancy and support the woman during a life changing time. Please check with your midwife for possible contra-indications. New clients are required to wait until after the 12 week scan before having a treatment.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is a technique similar to acupuncture that is used for the treatment of trigger points and muscle pain. Releasing trigger points can have a chemical, electrical and mechanical effect which promotes 'assisted healing' and pain relief, it also allows distal access to the site of pain/injury. Some people are not suited to dry needling, you will need to read and sign an 'informed consent' form which allows the practitioner to screen for suitability.
Kinesio-taping
Kinesio-taping, otherwise known as sports taping, is used to support the connective tissue, offload muscles and provide alternative proprioceptive stimulation. In certain situations Amy may recommend it at the end of the treatment.
Amy continues to develop her practise by regularly attending post-graduate courses. She has trained in Advanced Massage, freeing the neck, opening the hips and lower back, and foundation level Kinesiology.
