The event below is being finalised. Tickets will be available from the 18th March.
Frankie Howerd lived in Cross and was one of Britain’s most loved comedians for half a century. But he had a secret. And the secret’s name was Dennis.
This hugely acclaimed play by Mark Farrelly (Quentin Crisp, Naked Hope, Jarman) takes you to the heart of Frankie and Dennis' clandestine relationship, which lasted from the 1950s until Frankie’s death in 1992. It also affords a glorious opportunity to encounter Frankie in full-flight stand-up mode.
Packed with laughter, but unafraid of truth, Howerd’s End portrays two humans' journey through closeness, love, grief and all the other things that make life worth living. Come and say farewell to a legend… and learn the art of letting go.
Mark has agreed to do the 100th performance of this play in Cross Memorial Hall (just across the road from Frankie’s house), Webbington Road, Cross BS26 2EL in aid of The Frankie Howerd OBE Trust on Saturday 6th July starting at 5pm.

Nigel and Jane are both Trustees of The Frankie Howerd OBE Trust (registered charity number: 1188630) which is raising money to create a community hub in the nearby village of Loxton - please have a look at our website Home - Frankie Howerd OBE Trust
We have now purchased a minibus, thanks to generous grants from National Grid and the National Lottery Community Fund and are looking forward to taking residents in the BS26 area on day trips and outings, and for whatever purpose will be useful. Here we are with our President, Dame Joanna Lumley, who officially received the keys. We all had an "absolutely fabulous" day with her in London recently.
We (as Windsor House Health) organise a "guess the weight of the pumpkin" competition (or similar) each year whereby the closest guess wins £30 towards a treatment. The proceeds, plus an extra amount from us, are then donated to the Children's Hospice South West. Last year we gave them £100. This year we have sold some home-grown Aloe Vera plants at various outlets and have sent the CHSW a cheque for £60.
Our community café in Loxton has now been open for several months. Please support us by popping in for a snack, light meal, coffee etc. as all profit is given to the Trust. Information on our opening times and menu can be found at: FRANKIE HOWERD HUB AND CAFE - Home (weebly.com)
Jane also plays in several bands, orchestras and recorder groups which raise money for local charities. Some are just free concerts that anyone can attend or are ticketed occasions to listen to a variety of great music. Once the events have been confirmed, you will find below posters of these events at which she will be playing. Please support her and the chosen charity. Thank you.
